Engineering Technician (Construction) employees take part in a structured training program that provides broad exposure to engineering work across the agency. This role builds your understanding of design, construction, maintenance, and safety operations. As a Engineering Technician (Construction), you will perform the following duties:

  • Rotational Learning: Participate in scheduled work rotations to gain familiarity with district personnel, procedures, and projects
  • Technical Support: Assist units across the agency with basic engineering tasks while learning departmental policies and workflows
  • Drafting Tasks: Prepare bridge and structural drawings using design tools with guidance from experienced staff
  • Plan Development: Produce drafting and detailing work for final bridge and structural plans from sketches, surveys, and existing documents
  • Field Activities: Join field inspections of bridges and record notes and sketches with direction from professional staff
  • Math Applications: Apply algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to compute quantities and support structural drafting

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work closely with vendors, and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) ad-hoc, as approved, after successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License.
