Pittsburgh, PAPosted September 15, 2026via Pitt Careers

The Department of Dental Anesthesiology provides both clinical and didactic training in managing medical emergencies in the dental setting. This includes management of the STAT program, as well as providing predoctoral and doctoral training through DSANE 5344, DSANE 2114 and DENT5272. These courses and programs are typically covered by the full-time dental anesthesiology faculty, however recent faculty departures will cause the number of full-time faculty members will shrink to  shrink to two beginning September 1, 2026. At this point, we will not be able to handle our current teaching load without the addition of part-time faculty. For this reason, we are seeking a qualified  individual with significant experience in the management of medical emergencies in the dental setting who is also able and willing to participate in the teaching of the courses named above. With the filling of this position, the department will be able to maintain all of its current teaching responsibilities.

The Police Communications & Emergency Management position co-reports equally to the University of Pittsburgh Police Department and the Emergency Management and Planning department. Part of the role is dedicated to leading day-to-day operations of the Police Communications Center — leading dispatchers, radio and telephone systems, security alarm monitoring, and CCTV operations. The role also supports the University's Emergency Management and Planning program, contributing to the program's mission to foster prevention, preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation activities that protect the campus community from the adverse effects of emergencies. This dual-function structure strengthens the integration of communications and emergency management capabilities across the Pittsburgh Campus and all regional locations.

The part-time faculty member will participate in the education and training of predoctoral and graduate students in the management of medical emergencies in the dental office. This will include lecture presentations, hands-on skills training and directing simulation-based emergency training for students, residents, fellows and faculty members in the School of Dental Medicine. The faculty member will also be expected to possess certification by the American Heart Association as an Instructor for basic life support, advanced life support and pediatric advanced life support. The faculty member will be expected to provide certification in advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support and basic life support to faculty, residents, fellows and students in the School of Dental Medicine.
