This position supports facility projects by preparing and reviewing mechanical designs, specifications, and construction documents. It requires careful planning, detailed analysis, and collaboration with staff to ensure systems meet standards and operate efficiently. As a Mechanical Engineer 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Project Design: Prepare mechanical drawings, specifications, and calculations for construction and renovation work
  • Budget Preparation: Develop cost estimates through different project phases to support planning and bidding
  • Construction Support: Assist field inspection personnel by resolving technical issues at institutions
  • Submittal Review: Evaluate contractor data such as shop drawings and test reports and recommend appropriate actions
  • System Analysis: Investigate and address mechanical system concerns through inspections and problem-solving
  • Coordination Efforts: Collaborate with other agencies during studies and surveys to assess departmental needs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week after the initial 6-month training period. During the training period, you must report in person to 1920 Technology Parkway, Mechanicsburg, PA. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Mechanicsburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Statewide travel is required, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. 
  • Employees with the required certification or license may be eligible to receive a lump sum payment at the time of hire and each time the certification or license is renewed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year as a Mechanical Engineer 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; or
  • Two years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
Special Requirements:
  • You must be in possession of a Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • You must be in possession of a valid driver’s license.

Other Requirements:
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
