The Surveyor 1 role with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources lets you play a key part in documenting and protecting state lands. You will support survey planning, gather important legal and historical records, and assist with marking boundaries in the field. This position offers meaningful work that supports both public safety and environmental stewardship.
This role supports the completion of survey projects that help maintain accurate boundaries and land records throughout Pennsylvania’s parks and forests. As a Surveyor 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Project Planning: Help prioritize and assess survey projects to ensure that work is completed properly
- Field Coordination: Lead survey crews and train personnel in necessary surveying tasks
- Evidence Research: Gather deeds, maps, and other data needed to complete boundary surveys
- Public Interaction: Provide information to individuals seeking details about land records or boundary matters
- Record Support: Supply departmental boundary information to legal staff when required
- Boundary Marking: Mark and stake boundaries during assigned survey work

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- This position may be eligible for Alternate work schedule
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, 5 days in a 10 day pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year as a Surveyor Technician Supervisor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Five years of responsible surveying work, including one year as a chief of party of a wide variety of surveying assignments; and graduation from high school. An Associate Degree in surveying or engineering technology may be substituted for one year of non-specialized experience; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- You must be in possession of a registered surveyor’s license as issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, or possession of a registered surveyor’s license obtained in another public jurisdiction under requirements which are at least equal to those of Pennsylvania.
Other Requirements:
- This particular position also requires a valid driver's license that is not under suspension.
