This position focuses on inspecting amusement rides and reviewing documentation to ensure for safe operation across parks, fairs, and similar attractions.  The role supports public safety through quality assurance, communication with operators, and careful evaluation of ride conditions.  As a Safety Inspector, you will perform the following duties:


  • On-site Inspections: Conduct unannounced ride inspections to verify the accuracy of work done by certified owner-employed inspectors
  • Safety Reviews: Examine ride installation, structure integrity, vehicle conditions, electrical safety, and overall operation in line with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards
  • Document Verification: Review required forms, itineraries, insurance information, and issue reports that list any inaccuracies and needed corrections
  • Rule Explanation: Interpret and explain rules, regulations, and procedures to industry staff and the public
  • Accident Investigation: Investigate incidents, determine causes, and prepare detailed reports
  • Firework Assistance: Support the Amusement Ride Safety Chief with inspections of retail firework sites

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position will be home headquartered within the following counties: Dauphin, Perry, Lebanon, and Berks.  You will be expected to travel in the field for this position.
  • This position is home headquartered.  In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Safety Inspector Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) program; or
  • One year of experience inspecting commercial, industrial, healthcare or other buildings or structures, machines, apparatus, devices or equipment for compliance with applicable safety codes and regulations; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Condition of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.

Post Employment Requirement: 

  • You must obtain a Class 2 Pennsylvania Amusement Ride Inspector Certification within 30 days of employment which must be maintained throughout employment.

Additional Requirements: 

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Professional electrical/mechanical training or experience with amusement rides or attractions.
