This role focuses on maintaining and repairing a wide variety of diesel and gasoline powered vehicles and equipment. The work supports safe and efficient transportation operations throughout the state. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

  • System Repairs: Repair engines, cooling systems, hydraulic components, and electrical parts on vehicles and equipment
  • Preventative Work: Complete routine inspections, diagnostics, and tune ups to keep machinery in safe operating condition
  • Equipment Overhaul: Overhaul and rebuild major vehicle systems such as transmissions, brakes, and suspension parts
  • Safety Procedures: Follow proper safety practices, identify hazards, and maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate equipment records, inspection documents, and work orders
  • Field Adjustments: Make adjustments and minor repairs in the field to ensure safe operation and reduce wear

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Some travel, overtime, and shift work may be required. Work hours are subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License. 
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • This position requires the employee to obtain a Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the probationary period.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
