This position plays an active role in field investigations and taxpayer assistance to support fair enforcement of tax laws across the Commonwealth. It combines observation, participation, and independent tasks to ensure compliance and strengthen public trust. As a Field Enforcement Agent 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Field Investigations: Participate in investigations of businesses and individuals to assess compliance with motor, fuel, business, and tobacco tax laws
- Compliance Checks: Conduct inspections, testing, and road details to verify proper licensing, registration, and fuel taxability
- Evidence Handling: Collect, prepare, and submit evidence while following established procedures and rules of evidence
- Taxpayer Interaction: Explain tax requirements, gather information, and assist with resolving delinquent taxes and missing returns
- Report Preparation: Compile investigative reports with recommendations and documentation needed for legal action
- Surveillance Duties: Monitor individuals or locations as part of investigations into suspected violations of tax laws

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Home Headquartered: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience in tax investigation work; or
- Four years of experience in collections operations in a business, commercial, industrial, government, or finance office; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
Additional Requirements:
- You must reside in Adams or York County. Relocation is not an option.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
- You must meet eligibility qualifiers for CLEAN access (Criminal convictions may limit ability for employment).
