The Field Enforcement Agent 1 position with the Bureau of Enforcement and Taxpayer Assistance (BETA), offers you a chance to protect the integrity of Pennsylvania's tax system. This position focuses on entry-level investigative work that supports tax compliance and enforcement across the Commonwealth. You will learn procedures, develop technical skills, and assist experienced agents in a variety of field activities. As a Field Enforcement Agent 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Field Assistance: Observe and assist agents during tax and criminal investigations of businesses and individuals
- Compliance Checks: Participate in canvassing activities to identify unlicensed or unregistered business operations
- Fuel Inspections: Perform on-site testing of vehicles or storage facilities to detect dyed fuel and determine taxability
- Tax Collection Support: Investigate taxpayers to collect delinquent taxes and review information using state computer systems
- Contraband Enforcement: Assist in the investigation, confiscation, and prosecution of individuals involved with contraband cigarettes and tobacco products
- Evidence Preparation: Collect, prepare, and submit physical evidence and assist with drafting investigative reports for potential legal action

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
- Home Headquartered: This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience in tax investigation work; or
- Four years of experience in collections operations in a business, commercial, industrial, government, or finance office; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
- You must possess an active motor vehicle license.
Additional Requirements:
- You must reside in Lancaster County. Relocation is not an option.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
- This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
- You must meet eligibility qualifiers for CLEAN access (Criminal convictions may limit ability for employment).
