This role focuses on repairing, maintaining, and inspecting construction equipment, trucks, and automotive vehicles to support safe and effective operations.  Your work will combine diagnostics, preventative maintenance, repair work, and safety awareness.  As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:


  • Repair Work: Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical parts, and other vehicle components
  • Preventative Maintenance: Carry out routine maintenance programs and complete diagnostics, tune-ups, and system adjustments
  • State Inspections: Conduct official safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation accurately
  • Equipment Care: Repair and maintain motorized hand tools and report missing or broken equipment
  • Safety Awareness: Follow safety procedures, identify hazards, report injuries, and maintain a clean work area
  • Field Adjustments: Make adjustments, perform minor repairs, and assist other mechanics with major repair tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,607.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) program; or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at the time of application. 
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment. 
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • This position requires employees to obtain and maintain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within the probationary period.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
