UPMC is hiring an Ophthalmic Technician to support the Urgent Eye Care Center, providing high-quality ophthalmic care in a fast-paced and patient-focused environment. This position offers a convenient four 10-hour shift schedule Monday through Friday, allowing for enhanced work-life balance. The Urgent Eye Care Center is open 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with schedules based on clinic needs. Responsibilities include obtaining patient histories, performing ophthalmic testing and diagnostic procedures, assisting providers with examinations and treatments, educating patients, and ensuring efficient patient flow. Responsibilities:- History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuityLensometry: automated and manualPupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fieldsOcular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmusRefractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
- Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each.Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare testAngle assessment & dilation of pupils.Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions.Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.Travel to other clinical sites.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.
- Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred.
- Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Valid CPR certification
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 34
