Job Description
The Applications Engineer I provides technical support and engineering expertise in the application of Starline products for customer projects. Working closely with senior engineers and leadership, the employee develops busway system layouts and solutions based on customer requirements, specifications, and project drawings. Responsibilities include creating technical documentation, supporting product testing and certification activities, collaborating with certification agencies, and serving as a technical resource for both customers and sales teams. The Applications Engineer I also provides product application, installation, and troubleshooting support through a combination of remote and onsite customer engagement.
This position is suited to an early-career Electrical Engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges, collaborating with customers, and working at the intersection of engineering, technology, and business. Qualified candidates will possess a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, strong communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to travel up to 25%. Internship experience, electrical design experience, or exposure to power distribution systems is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to designing layouts for busway systems based on customer drawings and input.
  • Assist in creating product technical documentation such as catalog sheets, FAQs, technical briefs, reports, and installation instructions.
  • Provide technical support to sales teams and customers, onsite or remotely as required, on topics including, but not limited to, product ratings, compliance with U.S. codes and standards, safety, functionality, customization, troubleshooting, installation, and pricing.
  • Perform onsite troubleshooting and rework.
  • Collaborate with certification laboratories such as UL, Intertek (ETL), and others.
  • Serve as a technical liaison for the sales team.
  • Perform product testing to support certifications and ratings.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Recent graduate with a BS in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field
  • Relevant electrical design experience, either in a professional or academic setting
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and skills in technical writing and communication
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Relevant internship/co-op experience preferred

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Aptitude for electrical product design and application in power distribution products
  • Familiarity with the NEC, UL standards, and various North American certifications
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with people at all levels through verbal communication, writing, and presentations.
  • Dependable and customer-focused, with a consistent approach to responsibilities.
  • Able to work independently, adapt to changing needs, and identify practical solutions.

Personal Qualities/Behaviors:
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to travel, including air travel
  • This position may occasionally require work in manufacturing areas where personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and mandatory hearing protection, is required.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and communicate with others
