The Department of Transportation is looking for a dedicated Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic eager to make a difference daily. This position focuses on maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles, construction equipment, and powered tools to support safe and efficient operations. You will play an important role in keeping essential machinery in proper working condition for daily and emergency use. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Equipment Repairs: Carry out skilled repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, construction machinery, and powered hand tools
- Preventive Maintenance: Conduct routine servicing such as oil changes, diagnostics, tune ups, and part replacements across multiple vehicle systems
- Safety Inspections: Complete official safety and emissions inspections, verify repair compliance, and document inspection results
- Field Service: Provide emergency road service and perform maintenance in field environments when needed
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate equipment records and complete automotive reports and related documentation
- Safety Practices: Follow required safety procedures, report hazards, and support safe work environments for yourself and others

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch
- Work schedule is subject to change based on weather/season
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,607 (before taxes).

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
- This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations on the first day of employment.
- This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class 1, Class 4, or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
- This position requires employees to pass the Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
Additional Requirements:
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
