You will be required to attend an eight-week training program at the Pittsburgh Regional Headquarters. Depending on travel distance required for training, overnight lodging may be provided. Following the eight-week training period, you will primarily work from your home location and travel to assigned work location. The majority of this position will be field work in the Erie county area, but may include Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Crawford , Elk, Forrest, Jefferson, Lawrence, McKean, Mercer, Venango, and Warren counties. Additionally, you will report to the regional office in Pittsburgh based on operational needs.
This position focuses on investigating possible violations of laws, rules, and regulations under the jurisdiction of the Department of State. The role involves fieldwork, detailed analysis, and accurate reporting to support fair oversight across multiple programs. As a Professional Conduct Investigator 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Investigative Work: Conduct investigations into alleged violations and inspect for compliance across assigned programs
- Evidence Review: Gather information, evaluate findings, and prepare clear written reports
- Field Activities: Travel to locations, interview individuals, and document observations in support of investigations
- Confidentiality Standards: Protect identities, sensitive records, and evidence throughout all phases of each case
- Legal Application: Apply relevant laws, rules, and regulations to ensure proper procedures are followed
- Hearing Support: Testify at hearings and provide accurate information for formal proceedings

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time based on operational needs. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years as a Regulatory Enforcement Inspector (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Five years of investigative experience; or
- One year of investigative experience and a bachelor's degree; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training that included one year of investigative experience.
Other Requirements:
- This particular position also requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License.
