This role supports the preparation, delivery, and sanitation of meals for residents at the Hollidaysburg Veterans’ Home. As a Food Service Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:
- Food Preparation: Prepare and portion food items, beverages, and snacks according to established guidelines
- Tray Assembly: Assemble resident trays based on diet requirements and GeriMenu ticket information
- Sanitation Tasks: Clean dishes, equipment, floors, and surfaces to maintain safe and hygienic food service areas
- Record Keeping: Document inventory use, temperatures, meal counts, and other required information
- Holiday Support: Assist with food or table arrangements and decorations for holiday functions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Temporary, part-time employment (40 hours biweekly), lasting up to 9 months with the possibility of being hired as a permanent part-time or full-time employee.
- The following work hours are available, with rotating days off and holidays:
- 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM
- 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
- 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Additional Requirement:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Willing and able to work in Duncansville, Blair County, Pennsylvania
- Willing and able to work a part-time schedule
- Willing and able to work varied hours with rotating days and weekends
- Food service experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, hospital, restaurant, or other food service operation
- Work experience interacting with patients, residents, or customers while serving food/cleaning in patient/resident rooms or a dining room setting
- Work experience with food safety and sanitation in a dietary department
- Experience in the following tasks:
- Cleaning, washing, peeling, slicing, and dicing food items
- Using kitchen equipment such as VCM, food processor, tabletop chopper, and garbage disposal
- Chopping, dicing, and slicing meats, poultry, fish, and cheeses
- Heating simple foods such as eggs, sandwiches, and hamburgers
- Preparing sandwiches, assembling salads, and serving portions, including desserts
- Plating and serving meals from hot food cart
- Cleaning and sanitizing equipment, utensils, dishes, pots, pans, work surfaces, and other kitchen items
- Transporting and assisting in loading and unloading food delivery trucks from kitchen and dining rooms
- Transporting food and supplies to and from freezers, refrigerators, and storeroom
- Selective menu, taking food orders, waitressing, and dining room service
- Food cart and dining room serving area set up
- Reading meal and tray tickets or tags
- Tray assembly and working on a tray line
- Operating commercial kitchen equipment
