UPMC is hiring a Systems Engineer, Senior for the Integrations Team. 

Work Location: Primarily remote with ability to come on site as needed by department

Work Hours: Standard business hours in eastern standard time.

Purpose:
Under the direction of management and more senior members of the team, the Systems Engineer Intermediate maintains systems, participate in projects, provides end user support, contributes to team documentation, and seeks out process improvement. Responsible for participating in testing proofs of concept or evaluating new technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • End user support - Resolve complex end-user support issues independently. Responsible for assisting less experienced staff with end-user support issues. Responsible for ensuring there is resolution or that the end-user is connected with the appropriate resources for issues resolution.

  • Project Management - Complete assigned project-related tasks with independently. Responsible for time tracking and updating documentation.  Lead small to medium sized projects. Collaborate with other technical teams, as appropriate, for successful completion of project. Participate in POC evaluations.

  • Troubleshooting/Critical Thinking - Independently resolve issues. Offer input on issue resolution and mentor less experienced staff with issue resolution.

  • Core Technology Concepts - Responsible for understanding of complex technologies and their use. Demonstrates initiative to learn about current and future technologies.

  • Maintenance/Upgrades - Develops maintenance/upgrade plans with assistance of lead/expert. Responsible for maintenance and upgrades. Responsible for assisting with Disaster Recovery Plan

  • Five (5) years' experience with complex systems environments through education or practical experience.
  • Mastery of standards IT procedures and protocols. Shows the ability to lead junior team members with enforcing compliance of procedures and protocols.
  •  This position may be required to maintain a 24/7 off hours support as part of a rotation within the team. The frequency varies based upon the number of colleagues in the rotation.

  • Advanced expertise in designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise infrastructure environments including networks, wireless, server, virtualization, cloud, and communication platforms.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise architecture principles across data, voice, wireless, compute, storage, and security domains.
  • Expertise in network security architecture, segmentation, firewall technologies, and secure infrastructure design.
  • Advanced understanding of converged technologies supporting voice, video, collaboration, and data communications.
  • Experience designing and supporting highly available, resilient, and secure enterprise systems.
  • Ability to lead complex infrastructure projects including data center initiatives, network modernization, cloud adoption, and technology refresh efforts.
  • Experience developing technical standards, architectural roadmaps, operational procedures, and engineering best practices.
  • Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across infrastructure, systems, network, wireless, and security technologies.
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and provide strategic recommendations aligned with business objectives.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership across multiple technology disciplines.
  • Strong project leadership, vendor management, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical solutions and risk assessments to leadership teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance operational excellence, cybersecurity requirements, business continuity, and innovation.

Preferred:

  • CCNP / CCIE
  • Microsoft Azure Administrator/Architect
  • VMware VCP
  • CISSP
  • Palo Alto, Fortinet, or equivalent security certifications
  • ITIL Foundation or higher
