The Equipment Operator B for the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) gives you the chance to keep vital operations running across the Commonwealth. This position focuses on transporting essential supplies and equipment to multiple Pennsylvania State Police locations across the state. It involves consistent driving, careful handling of materials, and upkeep of delivery vehicles. As a Equipment Operator B, you will perform the following duties:

  • Truck Operation: Operate medium weight trucks to deliver supplies, clothing, firearms, and furniture to troop headquarters
  • Manual Loading: Load and unload materials at Central Supply and various troop sites
  • Equipment Use: Use vans, forklifts, and floor jacks to move large or heavy items and maintain equipment records
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Maintain mileage records and schedule inspections and service for delivery vehicles
  • Delivery Decisions: Decide how trucks are loaded and determine which items are returned from troop locations
  • Additional Tasks: Perform related duties assigned by the supervisor based on departmental needs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. 
  • Irregular Schedule: You will be required to work a flex-schedule.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

Special Requirement:

  • You must possess a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Condition of Employment:

  • You must possess a Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with Air Brake restriction lifted.

Additional Requirements:

  • You will be required to obtain Hazmat Endorsement after hire.
  • You will be subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:  

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening. 
  • You must pass criminal history and background investigations if you do not have a current Pennsylvania State Police background on file.
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
