Job Overview:

Eaton is seeking a Senior Aerospace Cybersecurity Engineer to join its Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CoE) and support cybersecurity initiatives across aerospace and defense programs.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in aerospace cybersecurity, embedded systems security, hardware security, threat modeling, risk assessments, vulnerability management, cryptography, and secure development. This position will work closely with engineering teams, customers, federal contractors, and internal cybersecurity organizations to ensure aerospace systems meet security and compliance requirements.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • 8+ years of cybersecurity engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of aerospace/avionics cybersecurity experience.
  • Strong experience with:
    • Aerospace threat modeling and risk assessments
    • Embedded systems security
    • Hardware security
    • Root of Trust concepts
    • Cryptography and code signing
    • Secure Boot and firmware security
    • Vulnerability management
    • Secure Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
    • Cybersecurity testing and security assessments
  • Experience with aerospace cybersecurity standards, including:
    • DO-326A / ED-202A
    • DO-356A
    • NIST Cybersecurity Framework
    • FIPS 140-3
  • Experience supporting ITAR-controlled and/or federal aerospace programs.
  • Key Responsibilities
    • Lead cybersecurity activities for aerospace and avionics programs.
    • Perform threat modeling, risk assessments, and security architecture reviews.
    • Define cybersecurity requirements and security measures for aerospace embedded systems, controllers, and aircraft platforms.
    • Support secure development activities involving:
      • Secure Boot
      • Code signing
      • Cryptography
      • Secure firmware updates
      • Hardware security
    • Conduct vulnerability assessments, cybersecurity testing, and penetration testing.
    • Identify cybersecurity risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
    • Support compliance with aerospace, federal, and customer cybersecurity requirements.
    • Review customer cybersecurity requirements, RFIs/RFQs, and contribute to technical proposals.
    • Work with engineering teams to integrate cybersecurity throughout the product development lifecycle.
    • Interface directly with customers, federal contractors, and internal engineering teams.
    • Support cybersecurity lab testing and occasional on-site assessments at customer and aircraft locations.
    • Provide technical leadership during cybersecurity reviews and customer engagements.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with FAA, DoD, defense, or commercial aerospace programs.
    • Strong knowledge of aircraft control systems and avionics.
    • Experience with aerospace hardware security architectures.
    • Experience working in ITAR-restricted environments.
    • Knowledge of secure hardware design, trusted execution environments, or hardware-based security mechanisms.
    • Experience with federal cybersecurity compliance frameworks and security certification processes.

    Additional Requirements

    • Ability to work from the Pittsburgh cybersecurity lab.
    • Willingness to travel approximately 10–15% for customer engagements, field testing, and assessments.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to independently lead technical cybersecurity discussions with customers and engineering teams.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
