Game Lands Maintenance Worker 1

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is seeking a hardworking, outdoor-driven Game Lands Maintenance Worker 1 to help build, maintain, and enhance Pennsylvania's game lands and wildlife habitats. In this role, you will operate heavy equipment, construct and repair infrastructure, manage habitat projects, assist with prescribed fires, and work across forests, fields, and rugged terrain to support healthy ecosystems and public access. This helps ensure that game lands remain in excellent condition for wildlife and the public. This position performs a variety of semi-skilled duties that are essential for maintaining safe, accessible, and wildlife-friendly environments. It is a hands-on, outdoor focused position for individuals who enjoy meaningful work that supports conservation and recreation across Pennsylvania. As a Game Lands Maintenance Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:


  • Construction Trades Work: Help maintain, repair and construct game land infrastructure such as bridges, roads, parking areas, gates, signs, and public ranges
  • Equipment Operation: Use and maintain heavy equipment, chainsaws, and a variety of other tools
  • Habitat Care: Maintain and assist with habitat management projects, pruning or clearing vegetation, boarder cuts, and mowing
  • Field Operations: Assist with prescribed burns, herbicide application, snow removal, and handling wildlife
  • Boundary Maintenance: Read maps, help with surveying, and maintain and reestablish State Game Lands & public access boundary lines
  • Safety Duties: Work closely with other field staff assess environments, follow safety requirements, and maintain safe working conditions

Work Schedule and Additional Information: 

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This position may have Alternate Work Schedules (AWS). 
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of laboring experience using construction tools and equipment; or 
  • One year of farming experience using agricultural tools and equipment; or 
  • One year of construction equipment operation experience; or 
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • You must possess an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
  • You must obtain an active Class A Commercial Driver’s License within one year of employment in this job.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
