Purpose:

The Food Service Supervisor is responsible for leading, training, and supporting Food Service Associates to ensure safe, high-quality food service operations and an exceptional customer experience. This role provides daily supervision of staff, promotes compliance with food safety and sanitation standards, and helps maintain efficient operations across Food & Nutrition Services.

  • Supervise, train, coach, and develop Food Service Associates.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and quality standards.
  • Support daily department operations to maintain service excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide ongoing feedback and guidance.
  • Serve as the opening or closing leader, ensuring smooth operation of the department during assigned shifts.

Schedule & Availability

  • Must be available to work a rotating schedule that may include:
    • 5:30 AM – 2:00 PM
    • 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
    • 10:00 AM – 6:30 PM
    • 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM
  • Opening and closing leadership responsibilities are required on early and late shifts.
  • Must be available to work every other weekend.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct the orientation, training and coaching of new team members. Ensure routine competency checks are completed for all associates with appropriate follow-through.
  • Contribute to the relevant and timely performance feedback to associates through the performance review process.
  • Monitor food quantity and quality to ensure appropriate product is available for meal service according to menu and special requests.
  • Supervise services according to department standards and complete quality control and quality assurance checks to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.
  • Monitor all aspects of the department's food safety program routinely and take immediate and appropriate action to identified hazards.
  • Schedule personnel to meet operational needs and in accordance with volume and budgetary guidelines.
  • Monitor all aspects of the operation's sanitation program on a daily basis to ensure inspection readiness at all times.
  • Maintain inventory levels to ensure they are adequate to meet the needs of the operation. Oversee security of inventory and cash revenues.
  • Coach and discipline associates as appropriate and in accordance with Human Resource policies and procedures.
  • Conduct and document service recovery on all customer complaints as per operational guidelines.
  • Provide for direct supervision of hourly associates and their adherence to all UPMC policies and procedures and department standards and guidelines.
  • HS Diploma/GED required 
  • 3 years relevant experience required 
  • 1 year relevant leadership experience required
    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    Allegheny County Health Dept or other certified food protection manager certification required within 6 months of hire.
     
  • ANAB - National Accreditation Board OR Servsafe Certified
  • Act 34
