The Richardson Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking a motivated entry level laboratory technician to join our team.  Our research focuses on immunometabolism in the context of Staphylococcus aureus infection, investigating both the metabolic strategies this Gram-positive pathogen employs to evade the immune response and the metabolic reprogramming host cells undergo to mount an effective defense with a particular emphasis on the competing roles of arginine as a substrate for inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase (iNOS) in nitric oxide production and arginase-1(Arg-1) in polyamine biosynthesis.  The successful candidate will work in a BSL2 Laboratory environment with responsibilities including preparing microbiological media, washing and maintaining lab equipment, and performing bacterial genetic experiments in clinically relevant human pathogens.  A bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, biochemistry or a related field is required, and prior lab experience with aseptic technique or bacterial culture is preferred but not required.  Strong attention to detail, the ability to follow established protocols and a collaborative work ethic are essential for this role.  The position offers hands on training in infectious disease and immunology research at a top-tier academic institution.  Interested applicants can apply at  Home | Talent Center: Careers at Pitt | University of Pittsburgh  to requisition # 26002628.
