As a Legal Assistant 2, you will serve as a Deputy Agency Open Records Officer, processing requests for records, reviewing legal materials, and supporting compliance with state and federal requirements. The role ensures accurate handling of sensitive information and timely responses to legal inquiries. You will also be expected to attend court hearings and provide expert testimony regarding the actions taken. In this position, you will perform the following duties:

  • Record Requests: Process Right-to-Know, subpoena, and mobile video recording requests and determine approval or denial
  • Legal Research: Review legislation, regulations, and court decisions to ensure proper application of legal standards
  • Subpoena Handling: Log subpoenas, interpret requirements, and coordinate with attorneys to ensure compliance
  • Confidential Review: Manage sensitive records, apply case law, and prepare files for appeals and legal proceedings
  • Agency Coordination: Work with attorneys, departments, and external agencies to resolve questions and gather required documentation
  • Accuracy Verification: Proofread materials for correctness, consistency, and compliance with departmental rules

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Legal Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of responsible clerical, investigative or enforcement work including one year of legal clerical support experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirement:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirement: 
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
