Student Financial Services (SFS) is a unit within the Controller's Office, which is part of Finance & Operations at the University of Pittsburgh. Student Financial Services (SFS) is responsible for student billing, payment processing, and related technology operations serving students across all campuses.

This position supports the accounting and reporting functions of SFS under the direction of the Associate Director for Accounting & Reporting. It performs complex fiscal and accounting tasks related to student accounts receivable, general ledger reconciliation, loan fund administration, and financial reporting, and contributes to the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of student financial records.

Facilitates complex fiscal, accounting, accounting analysis, and general ledger functions. Prepares budgets, financial forecasts, and research. Serves to resolve high-level issues.

  • Prepares and maintains general ledger journal entries for student accounts receivable, loan funds, and clearing accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of the university's financial records.

  • Reconciles student information system data to the general ledger on a recurring basis, investigating and resolving discrepancies before they affect student accounts and institutional financial reporting.

  • Supports preparation of the Annual Operating Reports and FISAP financial sections of federally mandated reporting requiring specialized knowledge of Title IV loan fund compliance.

  • Supports bad debt reserve calculations and prepares supporting documentation for write-off recommendations, requiring judgment specific to student receivable accounting.

  • Serves as an accounting resource within SFS, interpreting fiscal regulations and policy to ensure compliance in day-to-day transaction processing.

Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to use a computer, keyboard, and mouse for extended periods. Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Occasional lifting of materials or equipment up to 10 pounds may be required.
