This position helps ensure continuous and safe electrical operations by expertly handling various skilled tasks involving voltage levels up to 66,000 volts. It plays a crucial role in efficiently operating diverse components within the electrical generation and distribution system. As a High Voltage Electrician, you will perform the following duties: 

  • System Operations: Analyze, install, and maintain electrical machinery, devices, and equipment using specialized instruments and adjusting components based on readings
  • Emergency Response: Make critical changes during breakdowns and repair hot electrical systems while following strict safety procedures
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean, troubleshoot, and repair control equipment, meters, and generators using diagrams and tools
  • Power Distribution: Monitor switchboards, control electrical generation and the distribution of electrical power, and adjust controls based on operating procedures
  • Field Work: Drive to worksites and navigate challenging environments, often working at heights on small platforms and in confined spaces
  • Technical Diagnostics: Install and fix variable frequency drives and use computers and smart phones for communication and general tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information: 

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • This is a 5-day, 16-hour a day operation subject to shift work.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a High Voltage Electrician Training program; or
  • Six years of journey-level electrical experience, including eighteen months of experience in high voltage electrical work.

Special Requirement: 

  • You must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver's License which is not under suspension. 

Condition of Employment:

  • You must possess a valid Master Electrician License from the City of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. 
     

Additional Requirements:

  • This position is located at 509 North 7th Street, Harrisburg, PA. You must be willing and able to report to this location daily for work.
  • You must be willing and able to work different shifts.
  • You must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • You must have at least 18 months industrial/commercial style switchgear experience.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Possess computer/technologies experience in any of the following: Word, Excel, AIM work order, ESS system, smart phone, email
  • Experience working from ladders, scaffolding, bucket truck, or manlifts while following safety procedures
