Join Westmoreland County Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (BDHS) as a HealthChoices System Navigator (Administrative Assistant 2). This role guides individuals and families through a variety of processes to successfully access resources and services. Work relies on your effective collaboration within the Complex Case Team to ensure each person is referred to and receives an appropriate level of support.

This position serves as the initial contact for people and agencies seeking information or support. It acts as a bridge between individuals, service providers, and departments to ensure continuity of care and service alignment. As a HealthChoices System Navigator, you will perform the following duties: 

  • Assessment Assistance: Compete initial assessments to identify individuals’ and families’ needs and connect them with the appropriate level of support, including higher-level care  
  • Process Navigation: Explain, advocate, and help people complete all steps to obtain Medical Assistance, insurance, authorizations, housing, and other practical support needed for behavioral health services to be covered and effective
  • Resource Coordination: Work directly with facilities, care providers, agencies, and other community partners to monitor capacity and ensure smooth care transitions; follow up to confirm effectiveness
  • Communication Management: Handle high call volumes and monitor the general email inbox to ensure timely, accurate responses to all inquiries and assist with scheduling
  • Data, Reporting, and Documentation: Use electronic systems to maintain accurate records, manage care coordination, and support data-driven improvements to service delivery and resource allocation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Occasional need to work or attend meetings after hours or on weekends. Compensation provided. 
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to two days per week, after successful completion of a six-month probationary period and director approval. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a staff assistant to an administrative officer or as a technician in a staff service of a large organization; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from a four year college or university; or 
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements: 

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
