UPMC is hiring an Ophthalmic Technician to support the Ophthalmology Department at 4401 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15224. This full-time position works Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with no weekends or holidays, offering an excellent work-life balance. In this role, you will work closely with ophthalmologists and clinical staff to provide high-quality patient care, perform diagnostic testing, collect patient histories, assist with examinations and procedures, and support the treatment of a wide range of eye conditions. This position requires 10% travel to support departmental needs at additional locations. - History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuityLensometry: automated and manualPupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fieldsOcular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmusRefractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to -
- Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each.Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare testAngle assessment & dilation of pupils.Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions.Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.Travel to other clinical sites.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.
- Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred.
- Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Valid CPR certification
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
