This position focuses on operating and maintaining construction equipment to support road, utility, and facility projects at Fort Indiantown Gap. As an Equipment Operator B, you will perform the following duties:

  • Construction Reading: Read blueprints, plans, codes, and perform basic math related to project requirements
  • Equipment Operation: Operate light and heavy construction equipment safely across multiple airfields, ranges, and work zones
  • Safety Procedures: Follow radio protocols, unexploded ordnance procedures, and maintain awareness of hazards in active areas
  • Excavation Work: Perform excavation tasks, assess soil conditions, transport materials, and help prevent erosion
  • Maintenance Tasks: Make field adjustments, perform minor repairs, and assist mechanics with equipment servicing
  • Vehicle Readiness: Complete inspections, maintain required certifications, and ensure all vehicles remain in safe working condition

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

Special Requirement:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Additional Requirements:
  • A conditional offer is contingent on passing a favorable National Crime Information Center (NCIC) screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
  • You must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) permit at the time of hire. (Once you are hired, the agency will send you to classes for a Class A CDL that you must obtain within 6 months after hire.)
  • You must obtain a Tanker Endorsement (N) within one year of employment. 
  • You must obtain a Bio-Solid Application Certification within one year of employment.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no restrictions
  • Experience operating a refuse/recycling truck
  • Experience operating a wheeled/tract front-end loader
  • Experience operating heavy trucks/tractor trailers
  • Experience with snow removal
  • Experience cutting grass using a large tractor with a gang-mower attachment
