Responsibilities:

  • Assist with receipt, storage, inventory management, and accountability of investigational medications.
  • Maintain accurate study drug records in accordance with sponsor requirements, institutional policies, FDA regulations, and USP standards..
  • Support study medication dispensing workflows under pharmacist supervision.
  • Perform investigational drug inventory counts, reconciliations, returns, and destruction documentation as required.
  • Prepare study materials, maintain protocol binders, and assist with study start-up and maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate with pharmacists, study coordinators, research teams, sponsors, and other healthcare personnel regarding study drug-related activities.
  • Support sterile and non-sterile investigational product preparation as assigned and appropriately trained.
  • Assist with shipping, receiving, temperature monitoring, storage documentation, and chain-of-custody requirements for investigational products.
  • Participate in internal audits, sponsor audits, monitoring visits, and regulatory inspections.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of research subjects and study information.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement, quality initiatives, and regulatory compliance activities within the IDS program.
  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required AND one of the following:
    • Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program
    • Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience
    • Six months experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System
    • Enrollment in an undergraduate pharmacy program and in good standing

Preferences: 

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred.
  • Previous experience supporting clinical research studies or investigational drug services preferred.
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), USP <795>, USP <797>, and USP <800> standards preferred.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • PA State Board of Pharmacy Registration required for all PA locations
    • Non-licensed Pharmacy Technicians working in a NY facility are not permitted to perform Sterile Compounding. 
    • All Pharmacy Technicians working in NY facilities performing sterile compounding are required to have received certification from a nationally accredited pharmacy technician certification program (CPhT) and be registered with the New York State Board of Pharmacy.
  • If an individual has a Pharmacy Intern license, they do not need to register with the State of PA
  • RxPartners specific BU criteria may also include Driver’s License and Automotive insurance Registration is dependent on the state they work in
