Join the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) Bureau of Driver Licensing as a Driver License Examiner for Commercial Driver License (CDL) candidates. This position focuses on conducting driver examinations and reviewing identity documents to ensure safe and lawful licensing. Through your work, you will provide excellent customer service while supporting fraud prevention and highway safety across the Commonwealth. As a Driver License Examiner w/CDL, you will perform the following duties:
- Applicant Testing: Administer vision, knowledge, pre-trip, skills, and road tests for commercial and non-commercial applicants
- Document Review: Examine identity, residency, and legal documents for accuracy and authenticity
- Vehicle Inspection: Check vehicles for required safety features and ensure they meet testing standards
- Customer Assistance: Provide information on renewals, transfers, license types, and testing procedures
- Fraud Prevention: Identify irregularities, verify records, and follow procedures that protect against identity theft
- Product Processing: Complete applications, process results, and issue license and identification products

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Overtime and travel to other driver license centers may be required as necessary.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
Special Requirements:
- All positions require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
- All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
- All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
- This position requires possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the following endorsements: P and N. The Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
