Customer Service Representative (Clerical Assistant 3)

Join the Department of Transportation as a Clerical Assistant 3 and play a key role in supporting the Driver and Vehicle Services Customer Care Center. This position gives you the chance to help customers understand important information and resolve their concerns. You will use your communication skills and attention to detail every day. This position provides customer service and information to the public on a wide range of Driver and Vehicle Services topics. The role requires clear communication, careful judgment, and the ability to interpret complex information. As a Clerical Assistant 3, you will perform the following duties:

  • Customer Assistance: Respond to public inquiries on driver licensing, vehicle services, REAL ID, and related topics
  • Information Review: Analyze records and reference materials to provide accurate and understandable guidance
  • Decision Making: Determine appropriate actions and communicate solutions based on policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Written Communication: Prepare clear email responses and process electronic correspondence using proper grammar and tone
  • Record Processing: Update licensing and vehicle records and issue credentials or documents when required
  • Issue Identification: Recognize potential system or communication errors and notify supervisors when needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • This position may be required to work during office closings. 
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Clerical Assistant 2 (commonwealth title) (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration) or
  • One year of moderately complex clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willing and able to travel to Harrisburg for a minimum of 6 weeks for training and orientation (Travel expenses will be paid.) 
  • Experience using a PC or laptop
  • Experience using Microsoft computer applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook 
  • Able to effectively communicate orally and in writing 
  • Prior call center experience
  • Prior customer service experience
  • Bilingual
