This role focuses on protecting people and property by patrolling the grounds, responding to emergencies, and assisting residents and staff. The position helps ensure that the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center remains a safe and orderly facility. As a part-time Security Officer 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Safety Patrols: Monitor buildings, grounds, and parking areas to check for theft, trespass, and safety violations
  • Access Control: Check doors, secure buildings, and prevent unauthorized individuals from entering restricted areas
  • Emergency Response: Assist residents, handle emergency calls, and follow procedures outlined in the disaster handbook
  • Investigation Duties: Gather evidence, interview involved parties, and support searches when needed
  • Support Services: Deliver supplies, monitor cameras, transport residents, and assist with mail and medication runs
  • Documentation Tasks: Complete daily activity reports and maintain accurate records of security actions

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time employment, 40 hours every two weeks
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM: 1st week (Saturday, Sunday, and Tuesday) and 2nd week (Monday and Tuesday).
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Hourly Rate: In some cases, the starting hourly rate may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Special Requirement:
  • You must possess a valid Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle operator's license.

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willingness to work in Lackawanna County, PA
  • Work experience in the security field in the following areas:

    • Patrolling grounds and buildings

    • Checking for violations of fire and safety rules and regulations

    • Checking building and office locks and lights

    • Answering security-related phone calls and emergencies 

    • Assisting and providing customer service to visitors 

    • Approaching unauthorized persons to prevent loitering 

    • Assisting with police investigations

    • Operating fire and safety panels, addressing alarms, and resetting trouble codes

    • Working with disaster and emergency preparedness plans

    • Operating surveillance and security equipment

  • Work experience in a nursing or residential care facility searching for missing residents or assisting residents during emergencies
  • Technical Skills: Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office programs

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
