Pitt EDGE is the University of Pittsburgh’s central hub for digital education, housed within the Office of the Provost. This inaugural Center advances the University’s strategic vision for online, hybrid, and continuing education by partnering with Pitt’s 16 schools to expand access and improve quality for diverse learners. Pitt EDGE supports the full lifecycle of digital learning through services such as instructional design, technology integration, market analysis, academic planning, recruitment, and quality assurance.

A bachelor's degree and 7 years of directly relevant professional experience is required. A master's degree, or above, with 3-5 years of professional experience working in higher education is preferred.

Qualified candidates should possess an entrepreneurial mindset, collaborative leadership style, and skillful ability to establish productive partnerships. Qualified candidates will have demonstratable experience leading cross-functional teams to develop programs focused on continuing education, workforce development, and/or professional learning. The ideal candidate has a proven ability to develop and oversee career-focused educational programs, including certificates, microcredentials, and short-form learning offerings that align with industry and workforce needs. Past experience mentoring and developing Instructional Designers is required.
 

Drives strategic growth and planning of all Continuing Education (CE) for a school. Spearheads the implementation strategy and application of courses and certificate delivery policies. Oversees delivery of one or more complex education or training programs. Designs and implements curriculum development and course design for Continuing Education offerings and manages all CE and training operations. Develops projects based on needs assessments and develops formal and informal CE credit programs. Updates existing curriculum, ensures accreditation requirements, coordinates all program logistics, and performs administrative duties. Oversees appropriate staffing levels to support program management. Manages budgetary functions.

The Director of Continuing and Professional Learning provides portfolio oversight of workforce‑focused and lifelong learning programs offered through Pitt EDGE. The role reports to the Executive Director of University Digital Education and leads the development and implementation of continuing education programs, including professional certificates, short-form learning, and microcredentials aligned with industry and workforce needs. The director supervises instructional designers supporting professional learning programs, ensures consistent use of course templates and quality standards, and oversees program development and delivery. The position also builds and maintains partnerships with industry and community organizations to expand professional learning opportunities and support innovative, career‑relevant educational offerings.


Key Responsibilities
• Provide portfolio leadership for continuing and professional learning programs, including workforce‑aligned certificates, short-form learning, and professional development offerings.
• Identify and develop new continuing education programs aligned with industry needs and emerging workforce skills.
• Build and maintain industry and community partnerships to support program development and customized professional learning opportunities.
• Supervise and manage a team of instructional designers supporting continuing and professional learning programs.
• Oversee development and implementation of professional learning courses across online and hybrid formats.
• Ensure consistent use of approved course templates, design frameworks, and quality standards across all programs.
• Support the ongoing evaluation and improvement of professional learning offerings.

Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and work with computing technology. This position involves extensive screen time.
