This position supports vehicle readiness by performing specialized upfitting, repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance across a diverse fleet. It plays an important role in ensuring that vehicles meet safety, reliability, and performance standards. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Vehicle Upfitting: Install specialized components such as kennels, cages, lighting, brackets, decals, and tactical (TAC) boxes
- Advanced Diagnostics: Evaluate drivetrain, steering, suspension, brakes, computers, and fuel systems to identify needed repairs
- Inspection Duties: Perform state safety and emissions inspections and complete required repairs and documentation
- Preventative Maintenance: Complete tune-ups, fluid services, tire work, filter changes, and other tasks for gas, hybrid, and diesel units
- Component Repairs: Replace or repair suspension, brake, electrical, cooling, engine, transmission, and fuel system parts
- Road Service Support: Respond to road service needs and assist with snow plowing during winter operations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506.00 (before taxes).

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
- Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements:
- You must be in possession of a current and valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
- You must be in possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.
Additional Requirements:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass criminal history and background investigations if you do not have a current Pennsylvania State Police background on file.
- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
