The Kamil Lab in the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics is recruiting an experienced Laboratory Manager II. The Kamil laboratory studies diverse aspects of the molecular interplay between viruses and their hosts, focusing primarily on human cytomegalovirus (aka HCMV or CMV). The laboratory is investigating how CMV exploits glycobiology to hide within the host and are also studying a new virion surface glycoprotein complex that plays roles in entry, which we recently discovered together with our collaborators. The lab is also interested in the fundamental cell biology underlying how CMV overtakes the host cell and manipulates the secretory pathway. The successful candidate will have extensive hands-on laboratory experience working with viruses at Biosafety Level 2. Specific skills should include: Propagation, purification and titration of virus stocks (plaque assay and/or TCID50), design and execution of infection time-course experiments, Mammalian cell culture and aseptic technique, including primary fibroblasts and epithelial cells, cryopreservation and maintenance of cell banks, standard molecular biology to include PCR, quantitative PCR (qPCR and RT-qPCR), isolation of DNA and RNA, gel electrophoresis, recombinant DNA and subcloning, site-directed mutagenesis, genetic techniques in bacteria, and experience generating recombinant viruses and/or engineered cell lines is highly desirable. The New Laboratory Manager II must also be able to independently design experiments, interpret data, develop and troubleshoot new methods and procedures with minimal oversight.
A bachelor's degree in microbiology or a related field is required. Those with experience in University of Pittsburgh systems and processes for purchasing and ordering, experience in a herpesvirus or DNA virus laboratory, and/or experience with BAC mutagenesis will be given preference. Qualified candidates should apply to requisition # 26005175 at Home | Talent Center: Careers at Pitt | University of Pittsburgh
