This position leads environmental planning efforts by interpreting regulations, developing policies, and coordinating with internal and external partners to support transportation projects statewide.  This specialized work ensures that environmental standards are fully integrated into planning, design, construction, maintenance, and operations activities.  As the Northeast Pennsylvania Supervisor, you will perform the following duties:


  • Policy Development: Research and apply environmental laws and regulations to guide department programs and initiatives
  • Agency Coordination: Liaise with intergovernmental and resource agencies to resolve project issues and support compliance
  • Technical Expertise: Provide guidance on environmental matters and serve as a primary resource for staff and customers
  • Staff Oversight: Supervise environmental planners, conduct evaluations, and manage training and development activities
  • Program Leadership: Develop training materials, manage statewide contracts, and support environmental process improvements
  • Document Assurance: Review NEPA and Act 120 documents to ensure accuracy and consistency with environmental requirements

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • This position may be eligible for alternate work schedule (AWS). 
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time.  In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.  If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.  The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.  Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as an Environmental Planner 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six years of professional experience in local, regional, or state environmental planning; or
  • A Master's degree in planning or one of the environmental sciences and three years of progressively responsible professional environmental planning experience; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
