Salary:  $25.44 per hour. 

Union: This position is included in the Teamsters Local Union 249 bargaining unit and will be filled in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • A current, valid Commercial Class A or B Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Operator's License with the "L" air brake restriction lifted from the license is required at the time of submitting the application
    • If you do not attach a picture or copy of your current valid Class A or B CDL, your application will be disqualified.
    • Your driver's license will be verified prior to appointment to the position.
    • Your license must be maintained throughout employment.
    • Applicants holding an out-of-state Commercial Driver’s License must transfer the equivalent license to Pennsylvania within 90 days of their start date.

  • Drives a solid waste truck, collects refuse (i.e., household, bulk, or recycling) and empties containers on designated City routes.
  • Carries, lifts, and loads solid waste (weighing up to 75 to 100 lbs.) into truck daily.
  • Drives to and from landfill and on route.
  • Replaces refuse containers; ensures that surrounding area is clean.
  • Performs daily pre- and post-inspection of vehicle (at beginning and end of routes), and reports malfunctions and maintenance needs.
  • Checks and monitors oil, water, gas, tire condition, etc.
  • Requests periodic maintenance on vehicle.
  • Maintains accurate records for equipment and work routes.
  • Cleans and maintains cab area of truck, ejection blade, and sweeper.
  • Observes proper safety precautions in the operation of the truck's hydraulic and packing system.
  • Receives complaints from residents and refers the complaints to assigned foreman/supervisor.
  • Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.
