This position performs specialized diagnostics, upfitting, and maintenance on Pennsylvania State Police fleet vehicles, including communication systems, wiring, and advanced electronic components. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:
- Vehicle Upfitting: Install specialized equipment such as cages, lighting, wiring, racks, and brackets for PSP fleet vehicles
- Fleet Technology Work: Support radios, emergency lighting systems, sirens, mobile terminals, video units, radar, and related hardware and software
- Wiring Interpretation: Read, trace, install, and interpret color-coded wiring and complex schematics
- Advanced Diagnostics: Perform detailed testing of drivetrain, suspension, brakes, HVAC, fuel systems, emissions, and vehicle computers
- Safety Inspections: Complete state safety and emissions inspections and make required repairs for compliance
- Mechanical Repairs: Repair and replace steering, brakes, electrical systems, cooling systems, and major engine components

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or
- Completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
- Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
- This position requires possession of a current and valid Pennsylvania Class C driver’s license.
- This position requires possession of a valid Class 1 Inspection Mechanic certificate or equivalent that allows inspection for Class 1 vehicles.
Additional Requirement:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.

- You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
