This position engages in semi-skilled tasks related to the upkeep of the facilities and surrounding areas at the Hollidaysburg Veterans' Home. Responsibilities include a variety of general labor activities such as mowing lawns, clearing snow, managing landscaping projects, maintaining equipment, supporting maintenance personnel, and handling the loading and unloading of different materials. As a Semi Skilled Laborer, you will perform the following duties:
- Equipment Operation: Properly use large mowing equipment, tractors, small mowers, weed eaters, and similar tools
- Repair Assistance: Make minor repairs alone and help skilled trades workers with major repairs including water line breaks, mower engines, and welding
- Grounds Care: Sweep, clean, repair, and blacktop roads
- Weather Response: Shovel or plow snow and ice; work safely in adverse weather conditions
- Materials Handling: Haul materials for projects by hand, in a vehicle, or using a forklift
- Safety and Support: Drive to help transport residents; follow all safety rules, use protective equipment, and report or correct hazards

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Condition of Employment:
- You must be in possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
Additional Requirement:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
- Experience working with landscaping projects or mowing with commercial equipment
- Experience working in the PM maintenance and repair of small engines, i.e. mowers, saws, or weed eaters
- Experience in commercial snow/ice removal for buildings, sidewalks, or parking lots using salt spreaders, snow blower, plows, skid loader, or front end loaders
- Experience in general carpentry, masonry, and other related trades
- Experience working outdoors in all types of weather and adverse conditions
Legal Requirements:
- A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
- This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
