The Department of Agriculture at the Pocono Downs Racetrack is seeking a Clerical Assistant 2 who enjoys staying organized and helping others. In this role, you will support licensing, payroll, travel coordination, and daily office tasks. Your work will ensure the Harness Racing Commission operates efficiently and serves its customers well. This position supports the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission office by managing applications, processing reports, coordinating travel, and assisting with daily office tasks. It helps maintain accurate records and smooth clerical operations. As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare cash reports for licenses and fines and transmit revenue information
  • Application Processing: Process license applications and update fines and suspensions in the licensing database
  • Office Support: Handle filing, typing letters, preparing reports, and managing general correspondence
  • Travel Coordination: Arrange travel, enter travel expenses, and assist staff with reimbursement needs
  • Communication Tasks: Answer and direct telephone calls and respond to email inquiries
  • Supply Management: List, track, and order supplies and maintain inventory records

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are: 
    • 7:30am to 3:30pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • 11:00am to 7:00pm Sunday, with a 30-minute lunch.
    • This schedule includes a cyclical leave period of approximately 60 days at the conclusion of the racing meet.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting hourly rate of $18.46 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements (NSRs):
  • Commission Employee license

Additional Requirements:
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):
  • Candidate should have experience working with horses and a working knowledge of horse racing.
