This role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and inspecting a diverse fleet of diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles and equipment. It ensures that essential machinery operates safely and stays ready for daily transportation needs. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

  • Equipment Repair: Repair engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and other components on a wide range of vehicles and machinery
  • Preventative Maintenance: Carry out diagnostics, tune-ups, adjustments, and service routines to keep equipment in proper working condition
  • State Inspections: Perform official safety and emissions inspections, complete required paperwork, and road test vehicles
  • Diagnostic Work: Use tools and testing equipment to identify mechanical problems and determine the correct repair methods
  • Shop Safety: Maintain a clean workspace, follow safety procedures, and take steps to prevent accidents and injuries
  • Field Support: Make adjustments, demonstrate repair techniques, assist other mechanics, and maintain accurate equipment records

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. 
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,607 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
  • This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) by the end of the probationary period.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at the time of application. 
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
