Location:: Pittsburgh, PA, 5 Days onsiteInterview: Virtual InterviewsNOTE: W2 or 1099 ( Only Individual candidates)API Test Engineer Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced API Test Engineer to support the testing and quality assurance efforts for a mission-critical API integration platform. This application serves as a middleware solution between external partners, facilitating secure, bi-directional communication across multiple endpoints.This role will be responsible for driving the overall testing strategy, developing test plans and test cases, and executing both manual and automated testing efforts. The ideal candidate will have strong experience testing REST APIs, validating backend processing and data integrations, and ensuring applications are production-ready in fast-paced delivery environments.This is a highly visible role where the individual will help establish testing processes and provide leadership around quality assurance as the team continues to build and enhance the platform in real time.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain comprehensive test plans, test strategies, and test cases for API-based applications.Perform manual and automated testing of REST-based APIs, backend services, and system integrations.Validate API functionality, performance, reliability, and security across multiple integration points.Execute testing for:oPositive test scenarios (valid inputs)oNegative test scenarios (invalid and missing data)oBoundary value conditionsoError handling and edge casesAnalyze API request and response payloads, ensuring accuracy and completeness of data exchange.Validate backend processing and database transactions using SQL queries and database tools.Identify, document, and track defects through resolution.Collaborate closely with developers, business stakeholders, and project teams to resolve issues and improve application quality.Contribute to automation framework development and expansion as the project evolves.Support CI/CD and DevOps testing initiatives where applicable.Participate in release validation, regression testing, and production readiness activities.Adapt testing priorities in a fast-paced environment with aggressive timelines and changing requirements.Required Qualifications3+ years of experience in software quality assurance, API testing, or related testing roles.Strong experience testing RESTful APIs and web services.Hands-on experience with API testing tools such as:oPostmanoSoapUIoInsomniaoJMeteroPing APIovRESTStrong understanding of:oHTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE)oHTTP status codes (200, 201, 400, 401, 403, 404, 429, 500)oRequest and response headersoJSON request and response payloadsExperience creating detailed test plans, test cases, and test execution documentation.Knowledge of SQL and database validation techniques.Experience troubleshooting integration issues and data processing failures.Ability to work independently and lead testing efforts without significant oversight.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with demanding timelines.Preferred QualificationsExperience developing automated API test scripts using Python or comparable scripting languages.Experience with Playwright and/or Selenium.Experience with Zephyr Scale or similar test management platforms.Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.Experience building or maintaining automation frameworks.Exposure to Java and Spring Boot applications.Experience testing applications deployed in Kubernetes environments, including AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service).Front-end or UI testing experience is a plus.Financial Services industry experience strongly preferred.Technical EnvironmentAPI Testing: Postman, SoapUI, Insomnia, Ping API, vRESTPerformance Testing: JMeterAutomation: Python, Playwright, SeleniumBackend: Java, Spring BootDatabase: SQLCloud/Infrastructure: Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS)Test Management: Zephyr ScaleCI/CD & DevOps Tools (Preferred)
