Position Title: Network Engineer 2
Business Unit: Technology
Reports to: Manager of Network Engineering
Position Overview:
This position is primarily responsible for providing advanced network support for the corporation. The incumbent collaborates on defining Technology plans and strategies, participates with the development of long range infrastructure plans and consults with Technology and lines of business partners to appropriately provide network functionality. The incumbent has a significant impact on Technology, operational effectiveness, resources, lines of business and the corporation's reputation.
Primary Responsibilities:
Directs resolution activities of junior staff. Consults to determine the priorities of the Technology networking project plans. Has excellent understanding of network functionality and devices, is skilled in project management and has a detailed understanding of network analysis, protocols, reporting and network architecture.
Troubleshoots and distinguishes between network and application issues. Traces and resolves security issues. Has a solid understanding of Technology patching methodologies and vulnerabilities and resolves patching vulnerabilities and coordinates schedule.
Updates network diagrams and department procedures. Acts a vendor liaison for assigned systems/platforms. Works day shift but can be required for after hours and weekend efforts. Works independently or as part of a team to achieve results.
Follows change control procedures, contributes to Change Control meetings and participates as required. Works with Technology, Project Management Office and lines of business. Work with vendors and external support personnel.
Has a skilled understanding of network infrastructure and reporting tools and excellent knowledge of routing switching, IP schemes, load balancers, VoIP, wireless and firewalls. Leads complex strategic initiatives, patching and infrastructure projects. Purchases, installs and supports network communications including LAN/WAN systems.
Performs regular assignments using own judgment. Determines methods and procedures on new projects and is held accountable for end results. Determines when manager or others should be consulted. Has discretion to make decisions within the scope of their responsibilities. Complex assignments are occasionally reviewed upon completion.
Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.

CCNA - Cisco, CCNP – Cisco and management approved certifications (e.g. firewall)
