As a Maintenance Repairman 2 with the Department of General Services, you will help ensure that essential building systems stay safe and dependable. This role focuses on performing skilled and semi-skilled work that supports the operation, safety, and comfort of Commonwealth buildings. The position requires technical judgment and steady attention to building systems. As a Maintenance Repairman 2, you will perform the following duties:


  • System Monitoring: Access building automation systems and track conditions to support maintenance activities
  • Issue Response: Review equipment alarms and comfort concerns by checking temperatures, noises, connections, and parts
  • Preventative Care: Complete routine HVAC upkeep such as replacing filters, cleaning components, and greasing mechanical parts
  • Trade Assistance: Support higher level staff with troubleshooting airflow, refrigerant flow, and electrical issues
  • Project Estimation: Determine parts and supplies required for maintenance projects and submit needs to the supervisor
  • Site Maintenance: Monitor assigned buildings and equipment to ensure discrepancies are reported and addressed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Note: This position is considered essential. You will be required to report to work during emergencies and office closings.
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours will vary. Incumbents work assigned shifts to cover 24/7 operations, which include: 
    • 1st Shift: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
    • 2nd Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM
    • 3rd Shift: 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 ((Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirement:

  • You must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License. 

Additional Requirement:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualification (not required):

  • You must be available to work a flexible schedule due to 24/7 shifts (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM).
