Criminal Justice System Specialist 1

As a Criminal Justice System Specialist 1 with the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, you will assist with important claims decisions that directly support victims across the Commonwealth. You work closely with experienced staff to review information, make recommendations, and support fair outcomes. This position offers a chance to develop your expertise while contributing to a mission that truly matters.

This position supports the Victims Compensation Assistance Program by reviewing claims, preparing determinations, and working with staff to ensure fair and accurate evaluations. It plays a key role in supporting victims by analyzing information and assisting with the decision making process. As a Criminal Justice System Specialist 1, you will perform the following duties:

• Claim Evaluation: Review claims, write determinations, and assess documentation to support decisions
• Case Summaries: Analyze complex claims and present summaries to the claims review team for consideration
• Eligibility Decisions: Apply regulations and policies to determine claim eligibility and make recommendations
• Hearing Support: Prepare information and testify at hearings when claimants contest determinations
• Process Oversight: Monitor requests for investigative reports and maintain accurate tracking records
• Customer Assistance: Provide guidance to claimants, support consultative sessions, and offer help during training or outreach events

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Criminal Justice System Specialist Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• One year of professional experience in criminal or juvenile justice, law enforcement, or victim services, and a bachelor’s degree in the social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice, law enforcement, or a related field; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
