What can you Expect as a Lactation Support Specialist?
The Lactation Support Specialist provides optimal breastfeeding support under the supervision of an IBCLC experienced Lactation staff member.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a lactation support person and resource for patients and their families under the supervision of the Lactation Consultant.
- Understanding and coordinating of associated lactation equipment.
- Provides information on additional breastfeeding resources to family.
- Provide support and engagement throughout the phases of the lactation journey.
- Maintain accurate and legible patient care records.

Shifts/Hours:
This role works 28 hours a week 8am to 6pm. This role will work weekends. *Hours are subject to change based on business needs.
· Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
· Must be available for 500 mentored, clinical experience hours to proceed to the IBCLC/Pathway Certifying Exam, in order to become a Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and complete associated above education requirements (IBCLE).
· The process of completing the 500 mentored hours, studying for exam, and waiting for testing results shall be completed within one year from hire date.
· Must be in Pathway 1 or 3 for the IBCLC Examination.
· Must have completed education in the14 Health Science subject requirements (Pre-requisites for IBCLC exam).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34
- Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
