Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic

This position focuses on performing mechanical diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on diesel and gasoline-powered equipment used for transportation operations. As a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

• Vehicle Repair: Repair and overhaul cars, trucks, tractors, and construction equipment components
• Preventative Maintenance: Carry out tune-ups, diagnostics, inspections, and system adjustments on vehicles and machinery
• State Inspections: Perform official safety and emissions inspections and complete required documentation
• Diagnostics Work: Identify mechanical problems using diagnostic equipment and determine proper repair methods
• Safety Practices: Maintain a clean work area, follow safety procedures, and report injuries or equipment damage
• Team Assistance: Support other mechanics with major repairs and demonstrate techniques to coworkers

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. 
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. 
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $56,607.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Successful completion of the commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

• This position requirespossession of an active Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License.
• This position requires possession ofan active Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
• This position requires possession of an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) by the end of the probationary period.

Additional Requirements:

• This position requirespossession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations at the time of application. 
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
