Begin an exciting role as a Safety Press Officer with the Department of Transportation. This position allows you to support important safety programs that help protect travelers throughout District 5, by supporting efforts that educate the public and encouraging safer driving behaviors. This position supports District 5 safety outreach programs by working with law enforcement, local officials, and community groups. It focuses on promoting safety awareness, coordinating communication, and strengthening public involvement. As a Safety Press Officer, you will perform the following duties:

  • Safety Program Coordination: Coordinate and lead safety efforts focused on crash reduction and driver behavior concerns
  • Media Planning: Develop and implement an annual safety media plan that supports district goals
  • Community Outreach: Conduct meetings with local officials and safety partners to share goals and plan joint activities
  • Public Communication: Prepare publicity materials, schedule public meetings and help present transportation program information
  • Project Support: Assist with community involvement programs and evaluate transportation project impacts
  • Internal Collaboration: Support communication improvement efforts such as newsletters, fliers and recognition activities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and travel as needed, may have on-call/storm hours
  • This position may be eligible for alternate work schedule (AWS) after probationary period.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period after successful probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Allentown. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.   • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $53,008 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of public relations work experience promoting programs through the mass media, or community organizing experience; and a bachelor’s degree; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
