This position focuses on maintaining and repairing a wide range of vehicles, construction equipment, and powered tools. You will play a key role in keeping essential machinery in safe, dependable working condition. As an Automotive Mechanic, you will perform the following duties:

  • Vehicle Repair: Perform skilled repairs on cars, trucks, tractors, construction equipment, and powered hand tools
  • Preventive Care: Carry out inspections, oil changes, tune ups, diagnostics, and system repairs across multiple vehicle systems
  • Safety Inspection: Complete official safety and emissions inspections, apply stickers, and finalize related documentation
  • Diesel Service: Service diesel equipment including filters, pumps, gaskets, electrical systems, and driveline components
  • Field Work: Provide emergency road service and perform repairs at county stockpiles when needed
  • Equipment Records: Maintain accurate repair logs, assist mechanics on major repairs, and demonstrate proper techniques to others

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel, overtime, and shift work required.  Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs. 
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. 
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,819 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in the automotive mechanic trade; or completion of an approved apprenticeship; or
  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Certified Inspection Mechanic for Class 1 vehicles.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
