Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Nursing and the Assistant Director of Nursing, the Registered Nurse Supervisor combines clinical expertise, leadership, and administrative skills to ensure high-quality patient care, efficient nursing operations, and professional development of nursing staff. This role maintains compliance with healthcare standards and fosters a safe, compassionate, and effective care environment.
Duties
- Supervises and mentors a team of registered nurses and other healthcare staff.
- Manages staffing levels, scheduling, and workload distribution to ensure efficient and effective operation of the unit.
- Ensures the delivery of high-quality patient care in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans for patients.
- Monitors and evaluates the performance of team members, providing regular feedback and coaching.
- Participates in quality improvement initiatives and performance improvement projects.
- Maintains current knowledge of healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Acts as a liaison between staff, patients, and families, and healthcare providers.
- Handles patient complaints and addresses any issues or concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensures that all required nursing documentation is completed within established timeframes; reviews all documentation required by the RN, LPN, and Nurse Aide for accuracy and completeness, and provides direction accordingly.
- Monitors medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered, that treatments are provided as scheduled, and that storage and control of medications and supplies are maintained.
- Performs quality improvement audits.
- Completes performance appraisals on employees and annual competencies and training in accordance with required timeframes.
- Ensures recommendations for disciplinary actions, assuring adherence to policies, procedures, and contractual language.
- Ensure compliance with current applicable federal, state, and local regulations and facility policies and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed by nursing administration.

- Ensure delivery of compassionate quality care and nursing supervision as evidenced by adequate staff coverage on the units, general cleanliness, and maintaining optimal resident functions.
- Promote safe work practices, safety rules, and accident-prevention procedures to prevent employee injuries and illnesses.
- Meet general health requirements according to facility policy, including medical and physical exams and checking immunity status to various infectious diseases.
- Assist in evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
- Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends, holidays when necessary.
Minimum Requirements
- A Registered Nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing direct care in Long-Term Care (LTC) or a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF).
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in nursing management.
Must have current CPR Certification prior to appointment.
Candidates must be able to meet state requirements for relevant licensures or certifications and have no disciplinary action in effect against their professional license prior to appointment.
It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.
