Environmental Projects Construction Inspector

As an Environmental Projects Construction Inspector with the Department of Environmental Protection, you will help guide field operations that keep construction and reclamation activities in compliance. This role allows you to support safe work practices while protecting land, water, and nearby communities. Your efforts will help ensure projects meet important standards and follow approved plans. This role focuses on inspecting construction and reclamation work to ensure compliance with permits, plans, and Department policy. The work supports safe operations and protects the public and the environment through careful oversight and documentation. As an Environmental Projects Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties:

• Site Inspections: Drive to project locations and review construction activities for compliance with permits and specifications
• Material Evaluation: Accept or reject materials and workmanship based on required standards
• Erosion Control: Inspect erosion and sedimentation devices and recommend corrective actions when needed
• Safety Oversight: Report unsafe conditions and require contractors to stop work until issues are corrected
• Data Documentation: Record daily activities, measurements, and findings using computers and other tools
• Complaint Investigation: Investigate mine related complaints and prepare written reports with findings and recommendations

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• This is a field position that will cover project sites in the following Western PA counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Cambria, Cameron, Clarion, Clearfield, Elk, Fayette, Indiana, Jefferson, Somerset, Washington, and Westmoreland. You will be expected to report to the Cambria District Office on an as-needed basis.
• Telework: You will not report into an in-office location on a regular basis. Instead, you will work from home (telework) when you are not traveling to project sites. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Two years of construction inspection experience on heavy construction projects such as dams, flood control projects, mine reclamation projects, treatment plants, hazardous waste projects, airports, highways or utility installations; or
• An Associate Degree in Building Construction Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or a closely related field; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Special Requirements:

• You must be in posession of  a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
