As a Custodial Worker 1, you will be part of a dependable team that is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and upkeep of the Northwest Office Building and its surrounding facilities. Your work will directly contribute to a positive and productive atmosphere by ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and functionality of our spaces. In this position, you will perform the following duties: 

  • Facility Cleaning: Clean interior spaces, restrooms, stairwells, and common areas using approved methods and materials
  • Surface Care: Dust, wash, disinfect, and polish a variety of surfaces including tables, glass, walls, blinds, and furniture
  • Trash Handling: Empty waste containers, replace liners, collect trash, and move trash and recycling barrels to designated pickup locations
  • Equipment Operation: Use custodial tools and machinery such as floor scrubbers, forklifts, vacuums, and automatic floor equipment
  • Outdoor Upkeep: Help remove snow, apply ice melt, sweep pavements, pick up litter, and maintain outdoor walkways and building entrances
  • Safety Support: Follow agency safety rules, comply with biohazard protocols, respond to emergencies, and assist with Fire Safety Team duties

Work Schedule and Additional Information: 

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Additional Requirements:

  • You must be willing and able to work in Dauphin County.
  • You must be willing to work full-time.
  • You must be willing to work 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, and buffing, etc.)
  • Experience removing snow, trash, and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways
  • Experience using and mixing chemicals or solvents
  • Experience using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax, and buff floors
  • Custodial work experience in environments such as an activity/recreation room, bathroom/shower or bathing room, cafeteria/dining room setting, entranceway/lobby/common space, nursing station, patient/resident rooms, pharmacy, or physical therapy rooms

Legal Requirements: 

  • You must pass a background investigation. An applicant with a felony conviction within the last ten years of their prospective date of employment is not permitted to work for the PLCB, per section 210(c) of the Pennsylvania Liquor Code. Other criminal convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
